Competitive Duck Mimicry to Debut at 2016 Summer Olympics

The International Duck Mimicry Federation has announced Duck Mimicry will be an official discipline at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, to the delight of professional Duckists and casual cluckers alike.

Chase Stevens head of the United States Duck Mimicry Association: “I’m so proud that the efforts of the IDMF, USDMA, and other governing bodies helped make this happen. Team USA’s Duckists relish the opportunity to spread our wings on the biggest stage of them all. I mean that figuratively, but also literally, as we really do dress up like ducks.”

Part of Team USA is the current World Record Holder, Kenneth Diggs, who netting a record 9.6 score at the 2013 World Quackalike Championship held in Oslo, Norway, thanks to his duckist capture of both the call and vibrant plumage of the Blue Swedish.

This year’s Quackalike in Madrid, Spain will once again feature Diggs, but hometown hero Duilio Florentino Banales is expected to mount a strong challenge. Banales, also known as “El Pato” – or “The Duck” – released a statement through his translator, Google Translate, on the news: “I am very proud to represent Spain at the Olympics,” Banales said. “We will do well, for family, friends, adults, and ducks in Spain. Laughter is the best duck in the river!”

The US, Spain, England, France, Italy, and China are all expected to field challengers drawn from domestic duck-clucking contests like Canada’s Canuck Cluck, with more to be announced following the June Quackalike event.

“There’s something I’ve always said when it comes to competitive Duck Mimicry,” said Stevens. “If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, it’s probably Kenneth. He’s very good.”
